DEDICATION |

This website is dedicated to all of those who made my safaris possible. First and foremost to my wife, Irene, for supporting me for 32+ years, for braving the unknowns of Africa on our very first safari in 1991, and for putting up with me over the last 12 years as I attempted to piece this book together through all of its various iterations. To our children, Carrie and Greg, who longed to go with us on our first trips and who finally accompanied us to northern Tanzania in 2003. May you never forget your wonder at seeing your first giraffe as the sun rose in Arusha National Park. To Gary Clarke, the greatest safari leader bar none. Without your love of and devotion to Africa, its people and its wildlife, and your willingness to share your enthusiasm, our trips would never have been as rewarding. May Africa always be with you. To Nancy Cherry, Gary’s right arm at Cowabunga Safaris. Your work behind the scenes made the safaris possible, and your friendship and your camaraderie on our first trips to Tanzania and Zimbabwe are treasured. Get well soon so that you may return to your favorite continent. To all of those who have accompanied us as fellow safarigoers on our trips to Africa, especially Clayton Freiheit and Sally Clark. You enriched our experiences with your enthusiasm and kindness. Mama Safari, we will always miss you. Finally, to all of the safari operators and their drivers, guides and staff. Without you and your dedication to your craft, none of our experiences would have been possible. NEXT...Prologue |
